NNA - Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Thursday praised the government's efforts over the past two years, emphasizing its success in preserving the state's structure.
Mikati’s remarks came as he entered Parliament this afternoon to participate in the presidential election session.
"The government has worked hard during the past two years and managed, at the very least, to maintain the framework of the state," Mikati said.
When asked about his potential to head the next government, Mikati responded, “There will be parliamentary consultations at the Presidential Palace next week, and the outcome of those discussions will shape the way forward."
Moreover, Mikati commented on the position of the "Strong Lebanon" bloc, noting, “The bloc has not yet convened to decide on its candidate for the premiership."
Regarding his readiness to take on the role again, Mikati said, “I need a period of rest, but if there is a necessity, I am always ready to serve the country in any capacity."
On the broader political context, Mikati stated that while no comprehensive deal has been finalized, "the next phase will focus on complete respect for the constitution, full implementation of laws, and adherence to international resolutions.” He added that discussions about names, government structure, and composition remain premature.
Mikati also reflected on his relationship with the Army Commander during his term.
“Our relationship was excellent. He always respected the office of the Prime Minister, and I appreciate his commitment to Lebanese sovereignty,” Mikati concluded.
